When Udo Overath took over the family business in the 1980s, Overath GmbH was still producing wood wool. He quickly recognized the trends in the plastics industry and the associated benefits of polyethylene foam for the development of reusable transport packaging. Then he converted the company completely within three years and positioned it as a leading provider of reusable transport packaging of cross-linked polyethylene foams. The subsequent years were characterised by further growth both in terms of development and production. Focal point was the company’s own construction, already based on Computer Aided Design (CAD) for some time. Production, too, involved the consistent use of state-of-the-art technologies such water jet cutting that we were the first company to use for the processing of foams. The force of our innovation quickly made us the established partner of the automobile industry for such customers as Adam Opel AG, Johnson Controls and such industry leaders as Siemens AG. Close partnerships rapidly enabled us to offer complete packaging solutions, thus guaranteeing our customers integrated service. We earned our place as market innovator from development to prototype to serial production.

At the end of the 1990s when the new food hygiene regulations (HACCP standard) that legally required restaurateurs to document the cold chain of foodstuffs and the necessary means of transport were introduced, we quickly saw our chance and used our structural know-how for the development of food-grade insulating boxes for restaurateurs. This market introduction took place in collaboration with Metro AG, leading to the construction of a new marketing field in addition to the classic packaging solutions. We have been developing this consumer area for several years and have become able to successfully serve new market sectors with our latest innovation, the Flip-box family.

Until this very day the innovative spirit of our founder shapes our corporate culture. We believe in the power of change and work every day not only to improve things that exist but also to consistently re-evaluate them.
